La Zarrampla

La Zarrampla is a child eater ogre and the second collaboration between the illustrator Tomás Hijo, the researcher Jesús Callejo and the sculptor Miguel Elisardo Bueno, based on the book "The Enchanted World of Castilla y León" edited by the Ethnographic Museum (Zamora). In their book they define her as "another of those indefinitely creature that scares children, with bad tempers and feminine appearance. A true Castilian ogress characterized by being large, chubby, somewhat deformed in appearance, having a gigantic mouth and a large crop or belly with an insatiable voracity. Prey to gluttony, it incites her to devour absolutely everything, whatever happens." It is also known by the following names: Zamparrón, Tragaldabas, Tía Melitona... Our work represents three key characters of the legend as it is collected in their book: La Zarrampla, the child who is a separate figure and can be extracted and inserted into the mouth and the little ant that itches the Zarrampla's ass and makes her dance, which causes the child to come out unharmed. Seen from the front the ogre appears to be dancing.

Our sculpture is manufactured using traditional methods and cutting edge technology: It’s been modeled in clay, molded with silicone and casted in polyurean marble resin. The most delicate pieces that are the objects they carry in their hands are modeled using virtual reality with ultraviolet photopolymeric printing resin. Finally, it is hand-painted in acrylics, finished with Judean bitumen patina and a light touch of pearlescent mica.

This work is extremely faithful to the original illustration, reflecting not only the general shape but also the notches carved by Tomás Hijo’s gouge during the process of creating the print.

Each Zarrampla must be treated with exceptional care and attention to achieve this level of detail. It weighs almost 0.40 lb and the impression to the touch is stone-like. Its measures are the same of the original engraving plate of Tomás Hijo: 2.5 x 3.5 x 2.5 inches.

La Zarrampla es la segunda colaboración entre el ilustrador Tomás Hijo, el investigador Jesús Callejo y el escultor Miguel Elisardo Bueno, basada en el libro "El mundo encantado de Castilla y León" editado por el Museo Etnográfico (Zamora). En su libro la definen como "otro de esos asustaniños de forma indefinida, con malas pulgas y de aspecto femenino. Toda una ogresa castellana caracterizada por ser grande, gordinflona, de aspecto algo deforme, tener una boca gigantesca y un gran buche o barriga con una voracidad insaciable. Presa de la gula, la incita a devorar absolutamente de todo, caiga lo que caiga." También se conoce con los siguientes nombres: Zamparrón, Tragaldabas, Tía Melitona... Nuestra obra representa tres personajes clave de la leyenda tal y como es recogida en El Mundo Encantado de Castilla y León: La Zarrampla, el niño que es una figura a parte y puede ser extraído e introducido en la boca y la hormiguita que le pica el culo a la Zarrampla y la hace bailar, lo cual provoca que el niño pueda salir ileso. Vista desde delante la ogra parece estar bailando.

Nuestra escultura está fabricada mediante métodos tradicionales y tecnología punta: ha sido modelada en arcilla, molde de silicona y de material definitivo resina poliúrea cargada hasta la saturación de polvo de mármol.
Las piezas más delicadas que son los objetos que portan en sus manos están modeladas mediante realidad virtual y hechas con resina de impresión fotopolimérica ultravioleta. Por último, está pintada a mano en acrílicos y patinada a la cera, betún de Judea y pincel seco blanco.

Este trabajo es extremadamente fiel a la ilustración original, reflejando no solo la forma general si no también las muescas realizadas por la gubia de Tomás Hijo durante el proceso de creación del grabado.

Cada Zarrampla ha de ser tratada con mimo y atención excepcionales para conseguir este nivel de detalle. Pesa 170 gramos y la impresión al tacto es marmórea, como de piedra. Las medidas son las mismas del grabado original de Tomás Hijo: 6.5 x 9 x 6.5 centímetros.
